
Cal-SPL offers testing of agricultural produce including seeds and sprouts (alfalfa, bean, lettuce etc) for bacterial pathogens that infect humans. These bacteria include E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria. These bacteria can survive in animal digestive system and contaminate soil. The seeds coming in contact with such infested soil sites can get contaminated and produce contaminated sprouts. Therefore, seeds and sprouts are required to be tested for these pathogens. We utilize standard culture methods to isolate the bacteria. In addition, we utilize PCR tests for fast diagnosis of these bacteria.
