1. Select a vine to be sampled. A symptomatic vine is preferred.
2. Select two canes representing two cordons of the vine.
3. From each cane, cut a 6 inch section (pencil size thick) from basal portion of the cane. Place both cane pieces in a plastic bag. This will be one sample.
4. Label the samples appropriately
5. Prepare a packing slip (you can fill our sample submission form to serve as a packing slip)
6. Ship to lab by overnight mail.

You will need shipping label from us. Let us know and we will mail the shipping label to you. Shipping label (address label) is placed on the shipping box. In addition, the following documents are placed in an envelope and attached to the shipping box:
a. Copy of permit (P526P-08-00496)
b. A statement that phytosanitary certificate is not applicable
c. Commercial invoice (see an example)

2. For scion varieties - Collect a leaf sample if available. For dormant vines, a cane sample can be collected.
3. For root stocks, a root piece is collected. (avoid any roots originating from scion)
4. Put sample in a zip lock bag.
5. If possible, also collect reference samples of the suspect varieties.
6. Prepare a packing slip (you can fill our sample submission form to serve as a packing slip)
7. Ship to lab by overnight mail.

Shoot samples can be sent in early summer for immediate meristem or dormant canes for propagation and meristem in next spring.
1. Shoot samples for immediate meristem
a. Select a vine to be identified
b. Collect about 30 shoot tips (about 6 inch). Put them in a plastic bag. Transfer sample to a cooler immediately to avoid any heat exposure to the samples.
c. Prepare a packing slip (you can fill our sample submission form to serve as a packing slip)
d. Ship to lab by overnight mail
2. Dormant samples
a. Select a vine to be identified
b. Collect 20 cane pieces (12 inch long) that can be used for rooting.
